The GeoSystems Initiative receives funding from:
Chevron
Both Chevron and Texaco separately provided major support to the Initiative
from its inception in the form of the Chevron GeoSystems Fellowship and
the Texaco GeoSystems Fellowship, and continue to do so now. This year
Chevron has donated $30,000 to the GeoSystems program. Since 1983, Chevron
(formerly ChevronTexaco) has contributed more than $5.7 million in support
of Penn State's programs and people. The company employs more than 214
Penn State alumni and regularly recruits students. Penn State was recently
established as a Tier One engineering recruiting school for Chevron as
well as a core school for MBA recruiting. See complete story in "Gifts
That Impact."
Landmark

Has donated software valued
at over $6 million for use in the Applied Geophysics Instructional Facility
(AGIF). This facility is critical to our teaching and research in applied
and fundamental problems.

Shell
Exploration and Production Company, Shell Oil
and the Shell
Foundation
Shell has been
the foremost supporter of the Initiative, providing not only substantial
start-up funds and student fellowships but also donating data sets
(including seismic, wireline, core, and production data) to serve
as the basis of research for all four of the Geosystems Teams. This
year Shell Oil Company has donated $60,000 for the 2006-2007 fiscal
year. See complete story in "Gifts
That Impact."

Previous funding from:
Amerada
Hess
Amerada Hess has previously sponsored the Amerada Hess
GeoSystems Graduate Scholarship and provided general funds for use by
the Initiative.
Anadarko
Anadarko has previously sponsored the Anadarko GeoSystems Graduate
Scholarship.
IBM
In 98/99 the Department
of Geosciences received a robotic tape storage facility hardware donation
from IBM. This facility provided on-line and nearline storage for all
of our geoscience data which included hundreds of gigabytes of seismic
data. In addition the facility provided automatic back-up capability to
all machines in the department. Since that time the data has been moved
off the tape storage facility onto a series of high performance disks.
