Using Samba to link your unix and PC accounts:

First you must change the password:
(You will only need to do this one time)

1. On your unix workstation, slogin kula.

2. cd /opt/local/samba/bin/

3. ./smbpasswd

4. Enter nothing when it asks for the old password, just press enter.

5. Assign some new password when it prompts you.

Once you change your password, you may run Samba:

1. On your PC go to the Start Menu, click on Run.

2. type \\kula\shannon
Make sure to use the forward slashes. A file manager will pop up that shows the folders in /shannon/d3.
To get to your mail folder type \\kula\your userid
You can now move things back and forth between the unix and the PC using this file folder system.
You can even make /shannon/d3 a directory on your PC, contact sysadmin@geosc.psu.edu with help on this.
