Your machine may not have a built-in card, but there should be a PCMCIA
card (Netgear card) that is configured to work with it. Once the card is
inserted, a new "network" icon will appear in the system tray (next
to the
clock) which is for the wireless network. Right clicking on this will
bring up a menu with options allowing you to view available networks and
choose one to connect to.
To hook into an unsecured network windows has all of the software you
need. Choosing a network to connect to is all that is required.
For the EMS network you'll either need the Cisco VPN client with a
wireless profile (this should be in place already) or the SecureW2 client
for the WPA network. I don't recommend messing around with the WPA stuff
at this point -- just connect to the network "ems" and use the VPN
client
to authenticate.
When using wireless in the building, be sure to disable the ethernet
connection or a lot of things will stop working. To disable ethernet,
right click on the connection icon in the system tray and choose
"disable".
For non-PSU networks it's likely they will be unsecured or arranged in
such a way that you'll authenticate using your web browser after
connecting to the network. There's a lot of variety, though, so it's
tough to say exactly what you'll have to do.
