How to secure a document in Adobe Acrobat

You can secure a document in Adobe Acrobat so that a person may view and print the document, but not edit or extract figures from it:

1. Open document in Adobe Acrobat
2. File -> Document Security
3. Select Acrobat Standard Security from the drop down box
4. Check the "Password required to change permissions and passwords". Assign a password to make changes.
5. Select the level of security by clicking on the boxes and change the encryption level to 40-bit (better than 128 for overseas viewers.
6. Click "OK" and confirm password.
7. Make sure to SAVE the document again by clicking on File-> Save As
